Ugly Truth About Gaza ‘Riviera’ why is Trump doubling down on deporting Palestinians from the strip? perhaps because he and Netanyahu want to erase evidence of genocide, writes a West Asian Scholar: Paola Caridi based in Amman

In his latest social media post, Trump issued a last warning to Hamas to release all remaining hostages even as report surface that Washington had initiated direct talks with the Palestinian group. He also told the people of Gaza that a “beautiful future awaits” them but not if the hostages are not released.  But in essence, Trump does not deflect from the stands to deport permanently the entire Palestinian population of Gaza to an as yet unknown locations. The White House recently he confirmed this and rejected an alternative proposal for rebuilding as a put forth by Arab nations.
Even with a few corrections of tone Trump has therefore, not changed the substance of his plan for turn it into the ‘Rivera’ of West Asia under US ownership. He first announced his plan in front of Netanyahu on February 4th. It all started back then with: “we will own it”. After that, it was transform into “we will buy it”. Later in the press conference held with King Abdullah 2 of Jordan in the oval office, it sounded like ‘we are not going to buy it” we are going to have it, we are going to keep it, we will cherish it.
Gaza is effectively uninhabitable After 16 month of constant bombing by Israeli armed forces. The later used us-made bombs sent by the previous by the administration. It was a political choice led by by them and realised by then secretary of state Anthony Ben 10. The deportation of Palestinians from Gaza, which would constitute another crime against humanity would full fill the original idea of the news rally write-led by was a left to empty the strip and perhaps even best bank. In this way the ethnic cleansing that begin with the catastrophic of 1948 would be complete.

The human cost of emptying Gaza  would fall on Arab countries as happened in 1948. In the same way this was what Blinken asked of regional allies’ Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates at the beginning of the war of Gaza, in mid-October 2023. The request was rejected without an appeal.
So it is now, Arab countries refused to be part of a group’s political wing,  Sami -Abu -zuhri.
US, and consequently not only Trump and his Presidency is involved in the story. Us involvement could also speak of legal responsibility within International Law. As astonishing as it may appear in its colonial anachronism, it is anything but a balloon d’ essai that Trump has launched. It is however, not only a tool to test the reactions of US’s main allies in that reason. The idea of permanent deportation of Palestinians from Gaza also contains a compelling necessity. The evidence of genocide should be erased, easing the way for US-backed impunity for Israel.
Completely demolishing Gaza, which has already been destroyed by Israeli bombing, and then rebuilding it effectively means erasing the Crime scene. With the same objective, we must also view two Executive order signed by Trump. The first one sanctions officer connected to International Criminal Court that issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu and formal Israeli Defense Minister Yoav  Gallant.  The second freezes aid to South Africa which is the protagonist of Israel”s indictment before International Court of Justice at the Hague  for its genocidal intent.
Beyond the Emirates the involvement of Saudi Arabia and in other respects,  Qatar is central in all three cases we are talking about countries where the leverage of economic blackmail does not work. It may work (but to what extent ?) for Jordan And Egypt who have raise the wall against Palestinians deportation from Gaza to their countries. They know all too well how these issue will put a strain on Jordanian and Egyptian stability precipitating an existential threat.
Above all, it is Saudi Arabia that has hardened its position considerably. Riyadh has essentially shutdown normalisation with Israel bringing back the old Saudi position from 20 years ago. That had made ‘peace for security’ with Arab countries conditional on the creation of state of Palestine. Hence, it seems that the strengthening of the Trump Netanyahu axis has resulted in the compacting of a United Arab front against the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land.
How, though, can it counter the economics strength of US? how can it counter the seismic Swan already provoked by the freezing of USAID?  one possibility for the Arab region is to look eastwards towards the Indo-pacific. The Other possibility is for some countries like Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and Qatar to bring their economic weight to wear even as investors within us.
This is where Israeli-Palestinian question takes on a whole new significance in negotiations. It’s no coincidence that all the countries involved immediately rejected Trump’s Idea. Nor is it coincidental that they have already convened high-level meetings. Trump is taking the Israeli -Palestinian question uncharted dangerous water, jeopardizing even the only two peace agreements Israel has signed with Egypt and Jordan.
